Resident Profiles
| Ruth Harnish, Age 99 |
|
Ruth Harnish has been a resident of Lorantffy since 2002 after her family determined she required long-term nursing care following a fall.
Like many residents, Ruth wasn’t thrilled to have to call somewhere else home. But soon after arriving at Lorantffy, she began to feel comfortable, noting that “the nurses were wonderful and the other residents were friendly. I really enjoy the meals they prepare here. I can tell a lot of love went into them.”
Ruth keeps up her independence by choosing from many of the activities scheduled throughout the day and enjoys keeping herself and her room neat and tidy.
“I enjoy having visitors come in like the Boy and Girl Scouts and men with accordions. Each time we get a visitor, I write a thank you note. I also like going to the tea and birthday parties they plan for us. We even have a Halloween Party where you can dress up. I have gone as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.”
“Over time, I’ve really come to love my new home. I’m happy.” |
| Dr. Gyula Nadas, 101 |
|
Dr. Gyula – or Julias – Nadas and his wife, Ibolya, moved into Lorantffy Care Center together after Dr. Nadas had a fall at home. Ibolya suffers from Alzheimer’s. Like many of the staff, the Nadas’ came to America to flee the Russian invasion of Hungary, settling in Cleveland because of the large Hungarian population.
Married in 1944, the Nadas’ boast three children, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Prior to getting married, Dr. Nadas was a banker in Hungary and is credited as helping to introduce the concept of a checking account to Hungary. Once in America, he worked as a tool and die maker.
They both enjoy the atmosphere and food at Lorantffy Care Center noting that it often reminds them of home – Hungary that is. “The nurses and the other staff are so helpful and nice. While we sometimes miss living on our own, we feel at home here. We know we’re safe and cared for and we get to be together, which is all that is important. |
